There exist at least two types of slot players.
The first type is a persistent player.
This type of slots player is the one that believes the win is right around the corner. Any second now the slot machine will roll over and all the coins will be flying out and you will be rich.
Players become so persistent if they have already spent a lot of money for this slot and haven’t got anything or if they have found a slot machine that haven’t paid for a long period of time. They know the next big win, or any win is due to pay out. They can’t leave the machine because as soon as they do it will burst forth and pay out large sums. Makes sense if you have lost 0. 00 and have yet to win. The machine will pay any way.
Many years ago players have their own way of determining whether the machine has not paid out for a long period of time. They touch the coins to see whether they were cold or hot. If the coins were hot they believed that the machine had not paid for a long period of time. In fact the coins could be hot only because of the numerous lights that heated the coins.
The chaser.
The player thinks that the machine he is going to play is not a machine that never pays. Players feel more comfortable and confident because they have been reinforced with a win and gain trust in the machine. There is some kind of comfort and trust between the slot machine and the player.
Knowing the rules is of great importance when playing any casino game. With slots the rules are very simple: Read the payout chart, insert coins, push button, (or pull handle), insert more coins. If the bells ring and lights flash, open up your pocketbook because you are in the money! Enjoy, but never gamble with more money than you can afford to lose.
Rules for playing Slots
Only slots have so simple rules. There are no real rules. All the player has to do is drop coins in the slot and pull the handle or push the spin button. The main objective is to match certain symbols on the paylines. But the player can do nothing to affect this. Slots machines have different betting limits. They can be as low as 5 cents and as high as 0.
Especially beginners like slots. They don't have to worry about rules and regulations, or being laughed at by the other players for making a bad play, all they have to do is try to hit the jackpot by matching the highest paying symbols on one of the pay lines.
Slot machines are honest because state gaming commissions make sure they are. But there are some manufactures that design the slots in such a way that they can deceive players.
When the first slots only appeared cheating was impossible because they worked mechanically, with independent wheels spinning and then stopping randomly. Modern slot machines differ form the old ones greatly. These machines contain computer chips that are programmed to select numbers randomly. The numbers the computer selects correspond to the symbols that appear on the slot machine’s screen. The computer code that generates the random numbers is responsible for whether the machine is “loose” or “tight,” so gaming inspectors look at the machine’s code to make sure that a slot machine doesn’t cheat. There is a legal rate according to which the machine has to pay out. Of course it can pay lower, which happen very seldom.
It is next to impossible to say whether the chip is programmed not in a right way because the machine is not supposed to pay out with every spin. Before the machines are installed in casinos they are examined by inspectors. But you must understand that inspectors can’t examine every machine. They examine the brands. Once inspectors approve a brand of machine, the manufacturers can make changes to individual machines as long as the changes fall within the legal bounds. Using their right to produce slot machines they insert different chips, which makes the machine pay less.
There is an example when there was inserted an illegal tip which doesn’t allow royal flushes. Similarly, Universal Distributing Company was caught programming machines to show a “near miss” of a jackpot. The player would never hit a jackpot but keep on playing maximum bets. If you think that you have come across such a machine you have a right to complain. Be sure that inspectors will examine this very machine and the casino itself to make sure everything is ok. Manufacturers that cheat are fined or they can lose their license.
Have you ever met a man who has managed to cheat slots?
It is impossible to cheat the slot machine, but to improve the payout is possible. It was proved by a gambler whose name was Tommy Glenn Carmichael.
Tommy is now 53 and he can be said to have spent all his life inventing different devices to cheat slot machines. His first device was a kind of a top-button joint. By the way, for this device he was sent to prison. Upon his release, he continued to work on the problem and to devise a better way to cheat the new slot machines. The principle of his next invention was following: he inserted a guitar wire in the slot machine and it made the coins release from the hopper.
Later, as slot machines became computer based, he had to invent a new tool. Tommy found a manufacture who showed him the inside of a slot machine. It was enough for Tommy. Carmichael invented what he called a “light wand. ” The wand, built with a camera battery and a bright miniature light, was used to shine into the slot machine and blind a sensor, causing the hopper to pay out coins. Carmichael marketed these wands to other slot cheats, making as much as ,000 a day. He drove expensive cars, took cruises, and bought two houses.
But good thing will end one day. Tommy was caught using his invention in one of the casinos. While charges from that incident were later dropped, he was caught under similar circumstances in Laughlin and later Atlantic City. By that time the police already have all necessary clues to prove that Tommy was guilty. He got three years’ probation and lost everything that he had bought before. He has been banned from entering any casino.
