There exist at least two types of slot players.
Persistent player.
This type of slots player is the one that believes the win is right around the corner. The machine can begin paying in any second.
Players become so persistent if they have already spent a lot of money for this slot and haven’t got anything or if they have found a slot machine that haven’t paid for a long period of time. They believe that at least any payout is due to happen. They can’t leave the machine because as soon as they do it will burst forth and pay out large sums. Maybe it can really work if you have already spent thousands of dollars and have got nothing back. The machine will pay any way.
In the old days when a payout occurred players would feel the coins to see if they were hot or cold. If the coins where hot then the slot machine had not paid out in a while and to the chaser this was good as the machine was do. The heat of the machines lights, etc would eventually heat the coins.
The second type of slot players is a chaser.
The player thinks that the machine he is going to play is not a machine that never pays. Players feel more comfortable and confident because they have been reinforced with a win and gain trust in the machine. A sense of comfort exists between the slot machine and the player.
Slots are one of the oldest casino entertainments. They came through a number of changes and improvement. But the objective and the principle of the game always remain the same. Basically, you just put in the coins and wait to find out whether you won or not.
In fact all slot machines are the same. They have different odds (and of course payouts), different payoffs, different symbols and different exterior arrangement, but there's little difference under the hood. There are so many varying designs around the classic slot machine that everyone could probably find their own ultimate preferred flavour.
Two most distinct types of slot machines are single line and multiline slots. As it can be understood from its name single line slots have only one line with 4 or 5 wheels. But multi line slots can have up to 25 lines. Multi line slots are a little bit more complicated because winning combinations may play out across a number of lines; when you win, the machine will draw you how the symbols combine together and calculate the win automatically. It can happen that you win nothing during the game or that you win big in a short while. Paylines can be different. They can be vertical, diagonal, zigzags and what not.
Jackpot is also a feature peculiar not for all slots. In jackpot games, the slot machines accumulate a fraction of every wagered bet into a virtual pot. As the players wager, the jackpot grows and grows, sometimes crossing hundreds of thousands of dollars. There is only one winning combination that can bring the gambler the jackpot.
Since slot machines appeared they have been played with coins. Online casino slot machines are no exception to that rule, even though bets might differ slightly. Like regular slots they have betting limits, which can be even lower than in real casinos. Slots are the easiest casino games. They don’t require any decision on the player’s part.
Online slot machines also have RNG, which exclude any possibility to cheat. That’s why slots are as fair as it is only possible.
It is true that slots are designed to be honest and not to deceive a player. But there are some manufactures that design the slots in such a way that they can deceive players.
When the first slots only appeared cheating was impossible because they worked mechanically, with independent wheels spinning and then stopping randomly. Modern slots are much different. Now the integral part of any slot machine is a chip, which is programmed to select numbers randomly. After selecting a number a corresponding symbol appear on the screen. The computer code that generates the random numbers is responsible for whether the machine is “loose” or “tight,” so gaming inspectors look at the machine’s code to make sure that a slot machine doesn’t cheat. That is, inspectors make sure that the machine pays off at the legal rate or better.
Because slot machines don’t pay off with every spin, it’s difficult for customers to tell whether a slot machine’s chip has been programmed to pay off less often than is legally required. Inspectors look at brands of machines and their chips before they are installed in casinos, but they can’t inspect each machine. In the case of the approval of the brand the manufactures can produce the slot machines, even change them if it doesn’t go out legal bounds. Manufacturers can change chips to make a machine pay less as long as the inspectors have approved that particular chip.
For example, the Nevada Gaming Commission caught American Coin using chips that did not allow poker royal flushes. Similarly, Universal Distributing Company was caught programming machines to show a “near miss” of a jackpot. One the one hand the machine would never have a jackpot and the player would keep on playing. If you think you’re playing a machine that is not honest, you can complain. Be sure that inspectors will examine this very machine and the casino itself to make sure everything is ok. Manufacturers that cheat are fined or they can lose their license.
There are many types of slot machine configurations but all work according to the same principles - put the money in the slots and pull the handle! According to the main slot classification there are two types of slots. They are straight slots and progressive slots. The main feature, which distinguishes straight slots from other types is that you get paid according to the payout table, which is shown on the slot machine. Inside the straight slot group four more types are distinguished. They are multiplier, bonus multiplier, multiple payline and buy-a-pay slots. Bonus multiplier slots are characterized by a bonus round, which is activated if making maximum bets. The feature of multiple payline slots is that the number of active payline is dependent on the number of coins being bet. The Buy-a-Pay slots are profitable only if you place maximum bets. Progressive slots are characterized by the big jackpot, which progressively gets larger and larger, as every coin is put in. The amount of the Progressive jackpot is always shown on the slot.
