Modern Slots Types.
Generator Of Random Numbers
Modern slot machines are computerized. The odds are programmed. In modern slot machines, the reels and lever exist only for historical and entertainment reasons. The positions of the reels are chosen by a Random Number Generator. The machine's software contains it.
Random numbers are constantly generated by the RNG at an extremely high rate. The most recent random number is used to determine the result when the Play button is pressed. This means that the result varies depending on exactly when the game is played. The result is different every fraction of a second.
It was noticed that the RNG does not actually generate random numbers. Most RNGs will repeat their number sequence. Poor programming is its reason. It is relatively easy to build pseudo RNGs with very long periods. The computer that is able to complete a single period in the expected lifetime of the universe hasn't been invented yet. It was Ronald Dale Harris, a former slot machine programmer, who knew the pseudo RNG code and seed values. Equations for specific gambling games like Keno were discovered by him. Then the prediction was made that the next set of selected numbers would be based on the previous games played. But it is impossible for most machines, because numbers are picked by the RNG even when no one plays. So the player cannot tell where in the sequence they are.
Percentage Of The Payout
The percentage of winnings paid out of the money that is wagered by players is 82–98 per cent. This payout percentage is called theoretical. The minimum theoretical payout percentage varies among jurisdictions. Its establishment refers to the sphere of law or regulation. Nearly each casino has its own winning pattern. This is the amounts they pay and the frequencies of these pay-outs. The main criterion for selecting the winning patterns on slot machines is that they should yield a certain fraction of the money played to the house. The players get the rest of the money.
When a slot machine's software is written its theoretical payout percentage is also set. Changing the payout percentage requires a physical swap of the software. Being a time-consuming process it is done not very often. In certain jurisdictions the EPROM has a tamper-evident seal. To change it Gaming Control Board officials should be present. The audit of slot machines is made by some jurisdictions make sure that they contain only approved software.
The Nevada Gaming Commission is working now with Las Vegas casinos on technology that would allow the casino's slot manager to change the game, the odds, and the payouts remotely. The change can be done only after the selected machine has been idle for at least four minutes. After the change is made, the machine must be locked to new players for four minutes and display an on-screen message informing potential players that a change is being made.
Linked Machines
A group of machines offers a particularly large prize, or jackpot if they are linked together in a special way. A small amount is contributed by each machine in the group to this progressive jackpot which is given to a player who gets a specific combination of symbols. The amount of the progressive jackpot is far higher than any single slot machine's.
In some cases multiple machines are linked across multiple casinos. In these cases, the machines may be owned by the manufacturer, who is responsible for paying the jackpot.
Near-miss Programming
Computer software controls the reel display of modern slot machines. Combinations that are close to winning combinations can be displayed on the slot machine intentionally.
This practice of showing combinations that are similar to winning combinations more frequently than would occur randomly is called near-miss programming.
There is a related phenomenon which is also called near-miss. It is winning percentages that control the chance of a winning combination appearing on a pay line. However, the combinations appearing above and below the pay line are all roughly equally randomly distributed. There are roughly equally randomly distributed combinations above and below the pay line. This occurs if abbreviated physical reels are used to display a win pattern based upon the RNG. Video slot machines have virtual reels and the symbols that appear around the winning line are usually an accurate depiction of how the reels were mathematically modeled.
There was an investigation held by the Nevada Gaming Commission concerning the issue of a near-miss above or below the pay line. They ruled that this was legal, so long as the near-miss above or below the pay line was not specially programmed. The near-miss and any other combination should have the same possibility of occurrence. The machine cannot be specially programmed to show winning combinations more frequently than other combinations above or below the pay line.
Near-miss programming, where a near miss is inaccurately displayed is not allowed in Australia either. Manufacturer's practices are audited by regulators with the help of stop motion cameras.
Slots Fraud
Mechanical slot machines and their coin acceptors were sometimes susceptible to cheating devices and other scams.
Coin acceptors have become obsolete in favor of bill acceptors and modern slot machines are controlled by EPROM computer chips. Different advanced anti-cheating and anti-counterfeiting measures have been taken to make it difficult to defraud these machines. An example of modern ways of slot machine defrauding is directing microwaves toward it to disrupt its proper functioning.
As you know there are different types of slot machines. And do you know that there are even types of slot palyers.
Persistent player.
These players are sure that the machine is already ready to pay out, they just have to wait for a little. The machine can begin paying in any second.
Players become so persistent if they have already spent a lot of money for this slot and haven’t got anything or if they have found a slot machine that haven’t paid for a long period of time. They know the next big win, or any win is due to pay out. They can’t leave the machine because as soon as they do it will burst forth and pay out large sums. Makes sense if you have lost 0. 00 and have yet to win. The machine can’t but paying.
Many years ago players have their own way of determining whether the machine has not paid out for a long period of time. They touch the coins to see whether they were cold or hot. If the coins were hot they believed that the machine had not paid for a long period of time. In fact the coins could be hot only because of the numerous lights that heated the coins.
Chaser is the next type of slot players.
One can feel the atmosphere of comfort and trust between the machine and the player.
